Yes and pushing it further I would argue that Novels were one of the primary social mechanisms of her day. They are not interactive in the way Twitter and other networks are but they serve a similar purpose of sharing ideas, gossip etc. that combined with the turn round the room and you will see little has changed

Interesting….. speculating about what (if any) of these channels Jane Austen might use. The worlds she potrays, largely behind the park gates, is pretty-well self-sufficient including social interactions. But there is a lot of it going on, so I reckon that updating your Facebook status several times a day isn’t far removed from “taking a turn around the room”. So; yep, I reckon she’d be a Facebook and/or Twitter user.
