Google Spreadsheets – Mobile Editing

Published by February 16, 2009

Google is now allowing mobile editing of spreadsheets stored on its documents system. Users have had read access for some time now but now owners of smartphones (S60, Android and iPhone) can edit spreadsheets on the go as well.

I’ve tried the new feature out using an N95 and it certainly works, unsurprisingly complex features are not available. Any complex spreadsheets are going to be a pain on any mobile but if you like to keep track of expenses or timesheets using Google Docs then this going to be really useful for those out and about.

With mobile editing of spreadsheets available then wordprocessing won’t be too far behind (hopefully), this opens a raft of possibilites for dealing with office based documentation on the go offering a real alternative to downloaded office mobile systems. Of course Google Docs still requires an Internet connection via your mobile device and connectivity remains a barrier for some users but for those wanting to share and collaborate on documents, cost effectively, whilst out of the office, this could prove a powerful option.
